More and better democrats. That's the deal here. So in Utah-02, we have a moral dilemma and with election day looming, i'm struggling with what to do.
It ain't easy being a progressive in utah, but there are a bunch of us. And we tend to gravitate to salt lake county, summit county (park city!) and grand county (moab!). Which makes us part of the second congressional district where we have the one and only democrat of our delegation, ole blue dog Jim Matheson.
Over on the front page Steve mentioned this race with a reference to an article that showed up in the times. There, it was revealed that those sneaky tea partier types were thinking of shaking things up by voting in the open democratic primary for Claudia Wright, my favored progressive nominee.
If she is the nominee, they will have turned the seat over to a conservative," said Carl D. Wimmer, a Utah state legislator and chairman of the Patrick Henry Caucus, which calls itself the legislative arm of the Tea Party movement in Utah.
So if the progressive candidate wins the nomination, there is the fear that she can't win the seat. And Matheson is pretty much invincible ($$$), and backed by Obama and the DNC and the DCCC and the pharmaceutical industry and the oil industry, and wall street, etc etc etc $$$$$$$. So if he pulls off the nomination, he wins and goes back to DC, where he can vote against key issues like health care and for key issues like drill baby drill (can you say ANWAR). But he brings a D back to congress, and we're gonna need all the D's we can get to keep the agenda ours.
So there's the dilemma. Do I vote for the person I would like to see represent me in congress but may very well lose in the general election, or do I vote for the person who could win hands down but won't represent me but at least has a D after his name?
That my friends is this UTvoter's dilemma. discuss!
