OK, OK, this is mostly because everyone with a working brain knew that Rasmussen's earlier poll showing Rand Paul (R) up by a whopping 25 points on Jack Conway (D) was pure and utter bullshit. Now after SurveyUSA and DailyKos showed Rasmussen was full of it, he's back with a more reasonable poll showing Paul up 49%-41%.
I'm not going to do an analysis of this poll. Instead, what I'm calling for is this. Since Fox News and the rest of the right-wing media looooooooove Rasmussen polling, we need to shove it down their throats. Force them to admit that according to the holy right-wing grail that is Rasmussen, the narrative should now be Rand Paul has lost 17 points in two weeks!!!!!
Sit back, and grab the popcorn. This should be fun.
Remember, when Fox News got behind Rand Paul in the primary, it upset Trey Grayson enough that he called Paul the "Fox News" candidate. To which Fox News had Neil Cavuto do pushback against that claim.
But now, when presented with Rasmussen-level evidence their favorite son is plummeting in the polls, what will Fox News do? Will they cut 'n' run from Paul, and drop him like a hot potato, and pretend the race doesn't exist anymore? Or will they double down and try to promote him even more? (Which may be hard to do if Paul isn't giving any more interviews, just like Sarah Palin.)
It should become quite interesting to see how Fox News spins this.
Hmm... maybe they'll just pretend this latest Rasmussen poll just doesn't exist. I can't find any video evidence of this online, but were they pimping Rasmussen's earlier poll that showed Paul up by 25? So what WE need to do is to come in to let everyone know that "even Rasmussen's polling" is showing this huge incredible surge for Jack Conway and an even greater meteoric drop in Paul's numbers!!!
:-)
Update: Just to make clear, I'm only talking about this in terms of the media narrative. Jack Conway should NOT pay attention to this poll, or anything else from Rasmussen. He should just ignore it and run his campaign. Leave it to us to pontificate and bloviate over every single Rasmussen dropping that falls on our heads. All I'm saying is Rasmussen has provided us with a rare gift, a chance to really drive home the media narrative that Paul is sinking like a stone. I want "PAUL DROPS 17 POINTS IN TWO WEEKS" to be the headline on Fox News, Drudge, etc. Make the teabaggers go into a sheer panic wondering what the hell went wrong, and start questioning their entire worldview.
Too cruel? I think not. :-)
Update #2: Oh, just for the heck of it, some morning trivia. See if you can figure it out without Wikipedia. Think of it as training for the Pub Quiz at Netroots Nation. :-)
