The good news is that I've got a job, the bad news is I have to be away from home during the week.
I want a cheap laptop for things like light spreadsheets, word processing, web cam, Youtube, and blogging.
I am *nix literate, I use a shell on my ISP, and program shell scripts, that I could save some money, and perhaps get a skill to add to my resume, by going with one of the Linux graphical environments.
What I am looking for:
- An MS-Dos emulator to run my address book (PC-file version 5)
- A way of running my RSS reader (Feed Reader) on a Linux box, or some other one that runs on my machine (me no like web based feed readers).
- Recommendations on office suites (Open Office?)
- The ability to play Comedy central vids (without Stewart, I am lost).
- A good keyboard for my high impact touch typing.
- The ability to do flash. (FU Steve Jobs)
What I am NOT interested it:
- It does not have to be tiny/thin. It's not going to work, it's going to be in my room sitting on my desk.
- It does not have to be particularly powerful, I will not be doing high end gaming on it.
Suggestions as to Linux distro, and hardware?
