How far away from 7601 E. 13th St. Wichita, KS should Christian churches be banned?
That was the site of the murder of George Tiller, an abortion provider. The murder was committed by Scott Roeder, a Christian Terrorist. The assassination was inspired by religion - specifically a Christian religion. We should only need to ban Christian churches from the area, as this was clearly a Christianity-inspired crime. Islamic mosques should be fine, no?
I presume the above proposal would be absurd to the people seeking to ban a mosque near ground zero. That's because it is absurd. However, it is almost exactly the same thing these people are proposing, with the religions switched.
The differences are fewer than you think, and I'll swat down a couple before I go...
But murdering abortion providers isn't what Christianity is about. You're using guilt by association to clamp down on a religion that mostly disagrees with Scott Roeder's actions.
Yeah, exactly the same with 9/11 and Islam. That's why the half a million Muslims in America (if I'm reading wikipedia correctly) aren't trying to kill you.
But the victims of 9/11 were Christian and the murderer was also Christian. It was Christian on Christian violence.
Muslims were killed in the 9/11 attacks, too.
Christianity is the one true religion. Islam is an heretical religion.
Let me let you in on a little secret you don't want to know: they're both false. But so that we don't have to have the fight that you're already jumping to the comments to start, you (and everybody else) get the right to practice your religion freely so long as it doesn't violate the rights of others. Also, your religions all get treated equal because the government doesn't need to be in the business of picking the right religion. I mean, this is for the sake of getting along, and not creating conditions that cause people to want to kill each other over religion.
Also, this is the dumbest thing to capture the national debate in a while. At least no white girl has gone missing. It's always anything to keep us from talking about how deregulation and tax cuts for the rich since 1980 have stagnated the progress of ordinary Americans, huh? I mean, we take the bait every time with this distracting shit.
And look at that. I have a hole in my cheek. Fuck.
