In my humble opinion the biggest news of the year happened last night.
We finally withdrew the last of our combat troops out of Iraq.
I turned on MSNBC, and there it was, troops and combat equipment moving out of Iraq and rolling into Kuwait. I was hooked on the story immediately, and riveted to my TV until the wee hours watching history in the making. I watched Rachel Maddow. I listened to Keith Obermann. Richard Engle. All were so excited about this. I was grateful for their coverage of such a historic event.
I am/was excited to hear such good news!
I got goose bumps, I cried, and I was so happy that finally one of the misbegotten and illegal wars that Bush started and then declared finished on May 1st 2003, was truly ending. My spirits were lifted for the first time in a long time. I could exhale.
Those wars are and have been keeping us down as a nation. They are the root of so many problems, and now one of them is ending. Hooray!! Some good news at last!
I went to sleep fully expecting to see it splashed all over the front page of the Post. I got up extra early, and went out for my paper. Eager to "read all about it".
I thought this would be all over every newspaper in the morning, and everyone would be dancing in the streets come morning!
I got my paper. Nothing on the front page. Nothing about it in the paper anywhere?
No one out there is talking about this. No one knows the war in Iraq stopped. What? The general public does not know about the war ending yet? I am appalled.
I stopped what I was doing and wrote a letter to my paper. I called the paper. I sent emails to my friends to let them know, and they emailed back that they did not know and happy I shared the information with them.
President Obama made good on his promise to pull the troops out, and the news Organizations are not letting the country know about it? This is the major news we have been waiting for. A huge event has been accomplished by our troops AND our president, and it needs to be shared with everyone.
The mainstream media needs to get the word out. THE NY times isn't even covering it on their front page today. Is it making news in your hometown? If not, I urge you to call your hometown papers. Write them letters about their lack of coverage on the war ending in Iraq. We need to put pressure on them to get the good news out.
Thanks. For letting me rant.
