It's funny how Republicans are saying that we have to extend the Bush tax cuts, or we'll raise taxes on "job creators". They think they're being clever by setting up a frame whereby rich people are the indispensable engine that makes the economy run. But they've also painted themselves in a corner.
The right says that higher taxes on the rich will keep them from creating jobs. I call "bullshit"!! The so-called "job creators" had unpatriotically low taxes since 2003, and they still didn't create jobs, except in China. Think they will now? The rich blew their chance. Now they have to chip in like the rest of us.
I don't mean to say the rich are evil; I'm just saying they're not stupid. They know as well as anyone that supply-side tax policy is doomed to fail in a service-based economy. They can pretend otherwise, but their money speaks louder. I mean, you can spend a fortune creating all the jobs you want, but if nobody buys your product, those jobs won't last. Keeping money in the hands of the rich keeps it out of where it should be: in the hands of people who will buy your product. And don't count on your employees to step up and buy: The wages are so low they need their employee discount to buy what they sell.
