It's been a wild week at Unbridled Bigotry, from Park51 coverage, to the Murfreesboro fire, to the assault in upstate New York. Fortunately, today's coverage provides some levity in the form of a Michael Gerson op-ed and a New Jersey letter to the editor.
When Evangelicals Upset A Bush Speech-Writer...
Michael Gerson, the Bush speechwriter who brought the world "Axis of Evil", among other notable examples of George W oratory, is apparently very upset, claiming, In Mosque Controversies, Some Christians Undermine Their Own Faith. His article is eminently reasonable- noting that conservative Christians are playing quite the hypocrite when they claim victimization on the one hand, but persecute Muslims on the other, and that Christianity itself has evolved through "slow, halting, often hypocritical stages." Let’s see what kind of response Gerson got...

Definitely can’t "turst" them!

This one is practically painful. Dear Jim, that is EXACTLY what they are trying to build. Jesus Christ, you people...

I have heard this "Islam is a cancer" line so many times now- I wonder what shock jock has been using it. I believe "wake up america" started with Ron Paul, did it not?

It’s tough times when a Bush speechwriter is called a commie atheist...

Stick up you F...!
This has been a sampling of the first 20% of comments posted so far. But then, it’s Friday, and I have other things to do.

Muslims and rock bands and gays, oh my!
This letter to the editor surfaced in the Gloucester County Voices, a local New Jersey paper. It amused me greatly, so I reprinted it below. Unlike anonymous comments, letters to the editor must include real names. A cursory search of the distinguished L.Kramer of Pitman reveals his laughable positions that gays already have the right to marry ("a gay man can marry a lesbian woman") and that a light rail system might be too dangerous to implement.

To the Editor:
After reading Joan Wadsworth’s Aug. 29 letter, "Absurd logic from mosque critics," it should be apparent to most people that internal warfare is taking place in our country.
This war is between people who believe in the Judeo-Christian God and religions on one side, and on the other side, the Muslims, atheists, humanists, communists, abortionists, rock bands, homosexuals and the American Civil Liberties Union.
My belief is that all of these groups are out to destroy Christianity, in part by taking over the public school system. A Christian child can’t even fold his or her hands and have a silent prayer before eating in the school lunch room.

Muslim terrorists have plans to blow up the Empire State Building and other large buildings in New York City. They have already blown up two large buildings in New York City, killing 3,000 people.
We must be vigilant. God save America!

The New York Post continues to desperately milk the Park51 story, claiming that one of the funders once donated to a group that was accused of having ties to Hamas. As Jon Stewart has ably demonstrated, right-wing groups demonizing Muslims have relied on various degrees of separation coupled with scary Muslim names. That’s all it takes to shake people up these days.

dansch18 09/03/2010 8:26 AM: Just wait, more will come out about these terrorists. Their tax-exempt status is another mystery. There are two alternative sites, which I think are perfect for the Hamass mosque (mask): The bottom of NY harbor or at the far end of the West Point artillary range!!!!!

jadeeagle 09/03/2010 7:56 AM What, you mean there are terrorist ties to this "cultural center"? How could that be...? hahaha! Pleassseee this was so obvious a blind man could see it, and a deaf man could hear it. I’m sure it goes deeper than that. As for this enterprising man of terror..Sorry dude, but you gotta go. We either fight against terrorism with integrity or we’re simply playing hide the finger up the A**ss

There's that "cancer" line again...
Mr. Reality 09/03/2010 7:46 AM Why is this news? Those of us who live on earth, always knew that this was a terrorist monument of victory to the saddest day in American history. A muslim by any other name is still a weapon of satan. I think that it is time for Americans to rise against the infedels to our flag and for what it stands. Stop this cancer before it spreads further.
