First of all, let me thank all of you who have done nothing to thwart President Obama's proposal to slash funding for Community Action. Your apathy helps ensure huge reductions in programs that help people living in poverty.
Why should we waste our tax dollars on poor people, anyway? We've already made it so easy to be poor in America that MILLIONS more joined their ranks in the last few years. I'm sure they were happy to lose their jobs and their savings, knowing that we have such a robust safety net in place to keep them comfortable.
Well, that gravy train is coming to a stop. President Obama singled out Community Action for cuts in his SOTU address. Since then, it's come out that the president intends to cut funding for the Community Services Block Grant in half.
It's about time! Everyone knows that this nation's current fiscal mess was brought about by the nearly $700 million from CSBG that funded the only federal program focused on comprehensive services to fight poverty.
Yes, why should we subsidize the poor when there are so many great-paying jobs out there that go unfilled? It's time everybody just got back to work, darn it. Preferably in the financial services industry.
But let's not let the administration hog all the credit for pulling the rug out from under poor folks. You did your bit, too. Thanks for doing nothing! The silence is deafening, and will certainly encourage those intent on even greater reductions to that wasteful safety net. Heck, the president was so emboldened by the lack of outrage over Community Action cuts that he decided to lop a few billion off LIHEAP for good measure.
Let's face it: You're busy, and certainly don't have the time (or the inclination!) to push a few buttons that might just help tens of millions of Americans who are less fortunate than yourself. Thanks for not wasting your precious time by visiting http://www.petitiononline.com/... and signing that stupid petition.
Thanks again for helping to make it so easy to dismantle programs that help the poor! Now, about that Social Security thing ...
