What do we mean by the term ‘anti-Christ’? Consider the word itself. The prefix ‘anti’ means to be against, to stand in opposition to. Therefore, if a Christian speaks words that contradict the teachings of Jesus Christ, and who acts in a manner that is clearly in opposition to the many examples Jesus Christ has given us, then that person is, by definition, of the anti-Christ. So, it stands to reason that the anti-Christ is a Christian who says or does things that contradict the express teachings and examples of Jesus Christ Himself.
The Radical Christian Fundamentalists take the description further. They say that this anti-Christ will be a public figure, possibly a religious or political leader of some kind. The anti-Christ will be one who is mistakenly seen by many as being a peacemaker, one who clothes himself or herself in the robes of Divine approval, a preacher perhaps. With all that in mind, let’s look at a possible candidate.
First, consider what Jesus Christ had to say about obeying the Ten Commandments. He said we SHOULD obey the Ten Commandments, ALL of them. He never said it was OK for us to be selective about the ones we honor and the ones we ignore. In particular, He never said that we were free to disregard the Commandment that tells us not to bear false witness.
Who might fit this description? How about a preacher, one who deliberately bears false witness, who tells lies about his neighbor, and who shows no compassion for the poor and the sick? In view of his recent lies about President Obama’s biographical details, I think Mike Huckabee is a pretty close fit. He’s a minister, a possible presidential candidate, and he has knowingly, deliberately and repeatedly violated the Commandment against bearing false witness. He lied about the President’s childhood, not once but several times. Furthermore, Huckabee shows no compassion for the sick. He wants to do away with health care for our less advantaged brothers and sisters.
Everything Mike Huckabee stands for is contrary to the spirit of love and forgiveness that is central to Jesus Christ’s ministry. Jesus Christ said, “Love your neighbor. Show charity. Whatsoever you do to the least of My brethren you also do unto Me.” Therefore, Mike Huckabee would deny affordable health care not only to the poorest among us, but also to Jesus Christ Himself.
Huckabee the preacher trashes the Ten Commandments and ignores the fundamental Christian principles of love, compassion and charity. So, who is the REAL anti-Christ? Mike Huckabee, please STAND UP!
