We continue to hear President Obama tell us that we must SACRIFICE, but as I look around my community, my city, my state, the ones that should be sacrificing have not done so. In fact, these very factions have made more money on the backs of working people than ever before and the Obama Administration has done very little in action to change anything. Oh sure, he has given very stern statements, speeches, or whatever but actual ACTION, not much.
Now, as President Obama explains to us about attacking Libya and the half a billion dollars and counting it is costing the United States to drop bombs, I just am not feeling Libya.
Sorry, but I am selfish.
If we hate Gaddafi and all the other dictators, presidents, rulers in all these countries, well the United States should drop bombs on them ALL, starting with CHINA and its horrible Human Rights position and actions against its own people. And what about some of those other dictators in Africa? They have performed genocide against its own people for many years. I mean some of those mo-fos should have been blown out of the country YEARS ago!! Hell, look at our friend, Japan, who is not on the up and up when you talk about being honest about its current situation of its nuclear plants. When you have plutonium seeping into the soil, water and probably will be in its food source, while Japan officials are trying to say basically, "It is not that bad", don't that read like killing its own folks by lack of honesty? Sounds like murder to me or extreme denial, or trying to save their bottom DOLLAR HIDE. Maybe, all three. Oh, by the way, still waiting on the United States of America to say we are not accepting ANY GOODS FROM JAPAN. Ain't heard that one yet.
Well, see, this crap like Libya has been going on forever. If we have not done anything for these other horrid dictators, while KNOWING they are committing the worse atrocities against its people and turning a blind eye, why is Libya any different? I don't see the difference, so call me selfish.
I am WAR FATIGUED. Yes, FATIGUED. We have spent over 1 trillion dollars in Iraq and Afghanistan and what do we have to show for it? Well, as I see, plenty of fighting, bombs, troops on the grounds, troops killed, troops under extreme physical and mental pressure, troops families damaged/destroyed, hundreds of thousands civilians killed, but plenty of NATION BUILDING (in other nations). Yet, no nation building here. In fact, the infrastructure is crumbling in the United States (remember the I-35 Mississippi Bridge in Minneapolis?), but we continue to chase our asses and act like it is no big deal. But we can continue to give money to these countries building them up but Americans are asked to continue to sacrifice. And Afghanistan? If anyone believes we will win anything over there, I have the direct telephone number for Elvis Presley and you can talk to him personally. OK?
Sorry, call me selfish.
And let's talk about the biggest scam, which is on going, in this country in which NOTHING has been done. It is called Wall Street and the Banks from the mortgage meltdown. Or, as I prefer to call them robber barons and banksters who are gangsters.
The gangsters have literally snatched all the money in this country AWAY and have given NOTHING back for their fraudulent actions. These robber barons and gangsters were the main source for this economy tumbling and still where it is at. Yet, we have heard very little as far as "hand cuffs" on any executives from Wall Street or any major bank being sent to the nearest precinct or federal prison. In fact it took the producer of the Best Documentary Feature; Inside Job to tell it like it is on the Academy Awards stage in February 2011:
Wall Street and the Banks made more money off the U.S. Tax Payer than any corporation EVER, yet their actions at putting this country in the toilet where it is at, nothing has been done to any of these executives (oh, but they continued to get their double digit million dollar bonus right off the U.S. taxpayer’s back). We hear little from congress. We hear silence from the White House. We see business as usual. But, we, the U. S. Taxpayer are asked to continue to sacrifice (doesn’t this make you want to laugh, until you just cry….) Have the robber barons and gangsters sacrificed? No, they have not, so why should I. LOL, sorry, if I sound jaded, but I am selfish, just like they are.
Oh, now to my favorite topic, corporations. The ones who have been crying about tax cuts (and they have the best breaks EVER) but continue to not employ anyone while their money chests are so over flowed, these corporations can not even close the top!! The main corporation to talk about is General Electric.
Oh my, GE has been around since what? Forever? Who does not know GE? But GE is one fraudulent company. They too have been out there hammering away for tax breaks, while continuing to shed jobs overseas, away from the American public. But the biggest laugh is that GE paid no income tax for 2010!! For Pete's Sake, who does not want this deal!!! I was waiting for President Obama to at least make a statement on this, but "crickets". How can the President when GE's CEO is President Obama's point man for Council of Jobs and Competitiveness!!! Are you laughing yet? GE got a 3.2 billion dollar tax benefit. Now if this is not the biggest shake down of the American Public, I don't know what is. And we are supposed to sacrifice for this? Sorry, but I am REAL SELFISH.
See, all these wars, fraudulent banks, immoral Wall Street, crooked corporations continue to get a pass. They continue to screw the American Public for the almighty dollar and greed. And we have people in Washington, D.C. who continue to turn the other cheek, while accepting their monies for their re-election coffers. While these same politicians stand by and allow services, jobs and everything else to help the American Public expire, just go away.
But we are supposed to continue to sacrifice. When is this country going to sacrifice for me? What about the many who are unemployed and the many whose unemployment expired and they still don’t have a job? What about all these working families/middle class families having to go to the food banks to help them make it? What about the record number of American families on food stamps? What about food prices soaring upward but not downward? And gas for those automobiles? Upwards, upwards, upwards...and gas prices were climbing BEFORE Libya.
And we are supposed to be happy about all of this? And continue to sacrifice? While President Obama is ramping up his re-election bid and expect us to fork over money to help him? That is, if you can afford it or to be blunt, HAVE IT TO FORK OVER.
Sorry, POTUS, I am selfish. I am tired. And I am struggling. If you want all that money to run your re-election campaign, ask all the guilty outlined above to help make your coffers runneth over. The American public is struggling to make ends meet, many are walking away from homes that are just thrown on piles of homes all through this country that are empty, people don't have jobs and have heard nothing about any job creation in this country, many can not keep their kids in college, the college students can not find a job and if so, the wages so low they can not pay back their student loans, and the bottom line is that it is difficult and hard to live in the United States of America. So, many of these people are selfish and tired of being asked to sacrifice when the ones that put this country at its brink have been asked to sacrifice nothing.
Is that fair? No it is not, but we don't have the leadership or courage in Washington, D.C. to make a difference. It will be business as usual and wealthiest of this nation will continue to benefit, while the other guys (the American Public) will continue to struggle.
That is sacrifice you can believe in.Updated by icebergslim at Tue Mar 29, 2011 at 01:09 PM PDT
Some are having a cow over my rant on Libya and using China and Japan as examples. The word "if" is used and obviously ignored. Like many rants on Daily Kos, I have the right to put mine's up. And if you read the diary in the whole context, you do understand what I am trying to convey. It is easy to parse words and argue, good go at it. But it is funny no one is arguing on the rest of the diary which is dedicated to why we should continue to sacrifice when the banks, money given to wars, wall street, corporations have done NOTHING to sacrifice for us. (And when I state wars I am talking about the money given to continue this shit). American families are dying out here and the powers that be, could care less about us. I don't think anyone will disagree with this. Oh sorry, some may just argue to make us believe that everything is hunky-dory since POTUS sat in the Oval Office. brooklynbadboy never said it better about the hardship in the Black Community, while a turned eye continues not only on this community but everywhere that you see unemployment, lack of jobs, etc. Lastly, gulfgal98 puts it all in perspective.

Bank of America, the bank that the U.S. Taxpayers BAILED OUT pays no taxes but gets a ONE BILLION DOLLAR REFUND. Face it, from the White House, down to congress, down to your state houses, they are all bought and controlled by Wall Street, Banks and Special Interests. And remember, Barack Obama ran against special interests and the status quo, but with Bill Dailey (the darling of Wall Street) as his, CoS we already know who will fund Obama's re-election campaign. The ones who have stolen from this country and have sacrificed NOTHING. None of these people give 2 shits about the American public, period. And we are to sacrifice? Please.
