No words of wit or wisdon by your loveable diarists Invisible Woman & Mr. Fantastic are needed to increase the smile quotient of this entry.
As it happens, former Governor and State of Wisconsin Icon Patrick Lucey (R)... that's right a REPUBLICAN... has resigned his role as David Prosser's Honorary Co-Chairman and has endorsed Joanne Kloppenburg!
Details after the fold!
.... and they're JUICY!!! (Lucey Juicy, that is!) :)
NOTE: I apologize. Patrick Lucey was a democrat... BUT a conservative democrat at that. A number of his WI policies as Governor were hailed by the GOP. That's what I was recalling. FACT IS HOWEVER... he was HONORARY CO-CHAIR of Prosser's now (hopefully) sunk campaign! Again, my apologies!

I Have Never Loved A Republican Favorite More Than I Do Patrick Lucey
MADISON, Wis. -- Former Democratic Gov. Patrick Lucey is withdrawing his support for incumbent Justice David Prosser for Wisconsin Supreme Court and is throwing it to Assistant Attorney General JoAnne Kloppenburg.
Lucey released a statement to the media Thursday evening saying the campaign has revealed what he called "a disturbing distemper and lack of civility" in Prosser, though he did not cite specifics.
"I have followed with increasing dismay and now alarm the campaign of Justice David Prosser, whom I endorsed at the outset of his campaign and in whose campaign I serve as the honorary co-chairman," Lucey said in the statement. "I can no longer in good conscience lend my name and support to Justice Prosser's candidacy. Too much has come to light that Justice Prosser has lost that most crucial of characteristics for a Supreme Court Justice -- as for any judge -- even-handed impartiality. Along with that failing has come a disturbing distemper and lack of civility that does not bode well for the High Court in the face of demands that are sure to be placed on it in these times of great political and legal volatility."
This is mere speculation at this point, but IW and myself believe that there must have been a single event, be it during a recent meeting or conference call or some such that required Lucey to examine his loyalty to his party versus his own unimpeachable standards relative to integrity and civility. Note that Governor Lucey himself appointed Shirley Abrhamson way back "in the day", a SC Justice who has shown liberal (but fair) tendencies. It could also be that Governor Lucey did not enjoy seeing Prosser go apeshit on her in his now famous "I'll destroy you, bitch" tirade... a tirade he refused to back off on.
At the same time, Lucey said he has continued to be impressed by Kloppenburg, saying she has shown the proper judicial temperament.
"(Kloppenburg) has adhered throughout the campaign to even-handedness and non-partisanship and has exhibited both promising judicial temperament and good grace, even in the heat of a fierce campaign," Lucey said.
This is a killer, Kossacks. A KILLER.
Patrick Lucey is an Icon in the state. He would not have fired such a destructive missile of a missive with barely a week left in the campaign unless there was a reason of utmost conscience at stake.
My favorite part of the article?
A message left at Prosser's campaign was not immediately returned Thursday night.
Already Kloppenburg had decent momentum as the middle and left were squarely in her court. If nothing else, this will surely widen the so-called "excitement gap" between democrats and (tea-party?) republicans.
To quote the Thing....
"It's Clobberin' Time!"
Eman has sent us Prosser's response :
It is here :
Statement by Justice David Prosser:
My admiration and respect for former-Governor Patrick Lucey remains unchanged, although am disappointed in his decision. I have worked hard to garner bi-partisan support in an increasingly challenging environment. I've earned the endorsement of four retired Supreme Court Justices, over 75 members of the law enforcement community, 100 judges and countless individuals whom recognize that impartiality is best-defined by 12 years of judicial action, not six weeks of baseless charges by outside interests.
Eman also noted the misuse of 'whom'. :)
