With uncanny timing, another line of thunderstorms is headed my way. In the event I suddenly drop off line, well...you know.
It's kind of hard to vent when my belly is full of good food, prepared and eaten with good friends. This doesn't mean I don't have things to vent about -- indeed I do -- but rather that expression of such would be out of keeping with the pleasant sort of head I find myself in. I don't mind that the air conditioner in my bedroom has broken down again, forcing me to sleep on the fold-out sofa that gives me a backache. I can't at this moment care that my moods resemble a sound wave, looping up and down with no rhyme or reason, as I hope it won't take another 20 years to find a combo of medicines that will keep me stable at a cost I can afford year round. I refuse to give in, for right now, to the anger and frustration afforded by our government and sweeping disorganization that marks the progressive party. That I couldn't make my rent and had to borrow the full amount from my ex-husband is not weighing heavily on my conscience. Maybe later.
I had intended to use this space doing a review of Craig's first novel, Between the Bridge and the River. I bought it last week with the intent of reading through it quickly and writing about it tonight. But I'm having such a good time reading it that I refuse to rush myself; I want to savor every word.

As you would expect, Craig is a clever, funny and intelligent writer. But this book is so much more than that. Sure, regular viewers will catch subtle in-jokes that others will miss. And in a way, it works like the best of Craig's monologues, in that it takes seemingly disparate threads and somehow, eventually weaves them into a fabric that is greater than its parts.
BTBATR excels even further, though. You know how sometimes, when Craig is speaking, you get a sudden flash of just how smart he is on so many and various topics? As much diverse knowledge is imparted, his sentences are crafted so beautifully, his language so incisive and apt, that the reader will happily and doggedly follow it everywhere; at least, I know I will.
Even if you've read Craig's autobiography, you'll be pleasantly surprised at how well this is written. I've never written a review of a book I haven't finished, it feels almost illegal. That said, I think I've read enough to know that I highly recommend it. :)
Here comes the wind and rain again.
