Glenn Greenwald, you went WAY OVER the line with this tweet. This is incredibly insensitive, stupid, and tone-deaf as well. It's one thing to discuss the legal responsibilities and the morality of whether Osama should have been tried in court, and it's a whole another matter to theorize about whether a Libyan or a Pakistan would be right in killing Obama.
You know the two are not even comparable. Osama bin Laden was a terrorist who caused many deaths, ensnared us in two wars at great cost to our economy, and yes, I am glad he is dead, but I think he should have been tried in court, and brought to justice under our legal system.
The debate over that is worthwhile to have, as I did with my family over the weekend. Some supported the assassination of Osama bin Laden, decried the jingoistic cheering they saw in the streets which they said reminded them of some Muslims celebrating in the streets when 9/11 happened, and others thought that Osama, if he had been detained as the news reports said he was, and unarmed, should have been captured, interrogated for intel, and brought to trial with the full power of the legal court system that we have and are so proud of having here. People can agree to disagree over that issue.
And then comparing President Obama to Osama in matters of discussing whether a nation is right to kill? That is incomprehensible, monumentally stupid, tone-deaf, and WRONG. President Obama is not a terrorist. He is our President. He has made bad policy decisions and good policy decisions, and we disagree over those decisions, but it does not make him into a terrorist to be compared to Osama.
Glenn Greenwald, you just damaged your credibility with this, and you should take down your tweet and apologize. If you don't apologize, then you are a pathetic excuse for a journalist who should know better.
