I'm foregoing the IPad for tonight's diary because the 1 & only "this day in history" item I'm discussing demands demands DEMANDS videos to be seen, heard, remembered, and appreciated. So, let's get on with it! :D
Today would've been George Carlin's 74th birthday {sigh}. I so miss the insights & humor he would've brought to the likes of $aint $arah from Wasilla, the election of Barack Obama, the birthers, and too many other issues & events to mention here.
I know most of you here have probably heard this story before, but I'm telling it again because I want to! ;D I had the joy of seeing George Carlin live twice at nearby Butler University in Clowes Hall. The 2nd time I saw him was via the unexpected generosity of one of my husband's buddies a few weeks after Hubby got his HIV diagnosis. He gave us his tickets to the show because he figured we needed the laughs more than he did then. That night, I laughed for the first time in nearly a month. For a couple hours, I forgot how worried I was and how afraid I was; for that reason & too many others to mention even in a few dozen diaries, George Carlin holds a special place in my life & always will. Of course, y'all are encouraged to include your favorite George Carlin quotes & concert segments here tonight in addition to TRMS SOP! This classic, of course, HAS TO BE included because it spawned a SCOTUS case that supposed journalism student "that woman" didn't know about even though that case IS REQUIRED STUDYING for most communications majors I know! :D
Now, I got your SPARK right here!! I wonder if big oil companies thought of this business plan since they seem to be all about making the profits & being greedy bastards by not giving a $hit about the misery of others? Except for the peanut butter part, just whip up this concoction & stick it right into my vein!
Finally, I am just crying...a...river for THIS GUY - not.
On with The Rachel Maddow Show!
"Put Your Pants On & Go Home" - I haven't had a chance to read the Senator Ensign report yet, but, at least according to NPR this afternoon, the "honorable" Johnny could be in some legal soup! Will the DOJ & FEC actually take action on the $hit? I thought the DOJ originally had some of these details but refused to act on the info they had. Wow, and the scorn for what they think former Senator Lover Boy is actually truly bipartisan! 'Ol Doc Coburn could be in some trouble, too? Maybe? Hopefully?! HOLY $HIT!! Did y'all see those details??!! OK, I need to sit down & read the mofo report now.
All this $hit hit the fan 2 days before Christmas, but the families still spent the holidays together?
Johnny might have even gotten his parents into some trouble! What a good son!!
So, was 'ol Doc Coburn kind of a pimp in this whole Ensign affair? Sure sounds like it! Jon Ralston probably feels like he needs to shower multiple times a day after spending so much time with this story. Just a quick warning, I'm going to be reading this report & commenting below at the same time, so my comments might "space out" for spans of time. Are the Ensigns still married?
"Liberal Mouthpiece in Hardhat Has Questions" - Again, on NPR this afternoon, I heard some of what went on in that Senate Finance Committee hearing today; these oil execs are truly puss - filled boils on the butt of humanity. I was especially struck by the great grandson of John D. Rockefeller, Senator Jay Rockefeller's comment about oil execs being out of touch & always ending up on the winning side of any $hitacular circumstances. And, we got to hear what Senator Rockefeller had to say!
Senator Orin Hatch might as well have gotten out from behind that stand & smooched those pussy boils right there in front of everyone. He must get a hell of a lot of campaign coin from big oil! As big oil income went up, the number of employees went down - OOPS! Boys & girls, don't be holding your breath waiting for Senator Hatch to answer the questions Rachel asked. ;D HA! Rachel answered my question about campaign coin; that answer would be yes, in deedy - do!
"Liberal Mouthpiece in Hardhat Has Questions - Part Deux" - Here's Senator Bob Menendez! Basically, if big oil tax breaks stop, gas prices will continue to go up, and jobs will be lost - at least that's what they seemed to imply this afternoon.
Senator Ron Wyden played a tape today with those same big oil execs saying they no longer needed those subsidies when their profits weren't nearly where they are today. Oh, that darn pesky videotape! ;D I also heard on NPR this afternoon Senator Max Baucus offering the oil companies more offshore drilling permits in exchange for them giving up their tax breaks when they claimed they were already limited in their offshore drilling capabilities. They didn't give him an answer. Senator Menendez thinks these subsidies will end; I'm not that confident. HOWEVER, he said he may try to include ending these subsidies in any sort of debt ceiling "negotiations." THAT could be a hoot!
"HIStory" - O...M...G...I do not want any kids or any adult or any slug learning history from Mike Huckabee. Is it just me, or does the President Reagan in his little video shtick look a lot like Mike Huckabee? AUGH!! I wasn't planning to see "Tail Gunner" Joe tonight!!!! Ugh...I need a shower. Um, and what kind of history education creds does Mike Huckabee have anyway? I mean, hell, at least Newtie Gingrich used to be a history professor!
Sorry boys & girls, I needed me a dose of Mr. Carlin! :D
"The Best New Thing in the World Today" - Some Jewish group decided it was against their sensibilities to show the women in that situation room picture during the OBL raid; some group responded by taking out all the men & leaving the women - HA! :D
