Now maybe people will stop picking on us and we'll stop sneering....unlikely tho...
Mac users have a new problem :
A new version of rogue antivirus malware that targets the Macintosh operating system does not need victims to type in their administrator passwords to install and infect the machine, a security company said today.

Great, just when I finally get another useless wrecked mac working fast enough to use on dk4, now it can be farked up by some eedjit with a bad apple for a core.
Grrrr...
There haven't been many of these problems that have gotten so bad I would hear about them, Apple says it is 'working on a fix', although I'm probably two OS's from being able to use it..
CNET article here:
Updated rogue AV installs on Macs without password
The user 'fix' is to not install it intentionally, so read up and write it down, and if you, like me, are in the wee wee hours trying to get something to work, and install some stupid updates with idiotic titles, you'd probably better learn to wait and have a think before you install it.
Altho that worked for me today: at the last minute I learned my nephew was in the NCAA III division Track and Field runoffs today in Delaware, I just managed to click on something that made this Mac lump thing work and play a live vvvvvideo stream of the event!
....it works, if you call a frame rate of two frames per second a 'moving picture'. ...more like a 'mooooving picture' .
Any way, I was thrilled to see him there, they did well in a crowded field and his relay team finished two steps out of second place, not enough for the finals, but their best time ever.
As a former hs and college track runner I was getting all jiggy watching it all.
And now they let women compete!
Dam, that's awesome, cause well, anyway, it's great and these women runners are sooo good it's just makes me crazy to think we didn't have women in sports (other than field hockey) (always impressed that my sweet innocent caring gf of the time would come in all bloody and muddy, and beat to hell) ( I was way to skeerdee to play football with sticks and no protective gear, yikes!) :>
Where was I, track, girls...oh yeah, malware on a mac.
The recommendation is to turn off a window in Safari that helps make it easier for this crap to be installed (they call it self-installing, I'm not sure if that's exactly accurate, it seems that it will open a standard looking Mac Installer window, and you click igorantly on it thinking it's something necessary, maybe the fix for this malware!
Bastids.
So go to Safari> Preferences>in the 'General' pane that opens find about 2/3 down the box you may have checked that says:
Open safe files after downloading
and make sure that box is UNchecked.
Otherwise it will open the installer and you may be tired or igrant and cornfused enough to install it. I would.
Macguard sounds like something you want right?
Wrong.
If I have this right, if you leave the Safari Preference box more safely unchecked you may still notice some .dmg file that looks like something you need...ah hell, read these articles, then you'll know more than me.
Like always.
Good luck, I have to get up and do what needs doing and my brain won't start til afternoon sometime, so you're on your own comment wise, hope this helps some, cheers :>
Updated rogue AV installs on Macs without password
and
New MACDefender variant, MacGuard, doesn’t require password prior to standard installation
and
Apple has a real security opportunity, but will it seize the moment?
And if you ever find who does these kinds of things, kick him where the kicking is best, for me, thanks.
