This past weekend on July 9, the 2011 Conservative Leadership Conference was held at the M Resort Spa Casino, in Henderson NV., which included a Straw Poll for the 2012 GOP Presidential race. Businessman Herman Cain was the winner of the Straw Poll.
Herman Cain received 24 percent of the vote, followed by Mitt Romney with 21 percent , Texas Govern Rick Perry who has not announced that he will run, received 17 percent, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann received 16 percent and Congressman Ron Paul received 8 percent of the vote. The Straw Poll was sponsored by the right wing media outlet The Washington Times.
The two day event was organized by Citizens Outreach, whose president Chuck Muth said that, "There are still too many Cinderella’s out there". Translation, Republican voters and the GOP establishment have yet to coalesce around any one candidate, and they’re still waiting to find the foot that fit’s the glass slipper.
Citizens Outreach is a Political Action Committee (PAC) set up as a 501(c)(4), which means that organizations are not required to disclose their donors to the public. The use of the 501(c)(4) provision for organizations that are actively involved in lobbying, has become controversial, because individuals and corporations can donate freely and remain anonymous.
Hundreds of millions of dollars are being given to these secretive PAC’s and you the voter, are not allowed to see who is buying the elections because there is no transparency.
