The day after Obama's speech in Grant Park, I was sitting on an airplane waiting to go somewhere. Because I spend a lot of my time flying I was upgraded to first class. Just before the plane took off a couple came rushing into the plane carrying their big American flags from the speech (not the little ones that the common folk got). I took a look at the man and recognized him as someone who on TV the night before, I think he was standing by a famous person so he got some camera time. Next thing I knew he was sitting next to me and the topic obviously turned to Obama. I explained how my wife and I threw a fund raiser, called and went door to door. He went on to explain that he was a old class mate of Obama and while it was very nice that we did that kind of work it really didn't matter because it was the moneyed people, giving the big donations that really made the difference.
This is the problem. Our elected officials believe that we don't matter and if you aren't a big money donor you have no power. They're wrong and here is how to fix it.
The reason why all the current Republicans are so freaking crazy is because they are scared of the Tea Party, scared that they will lose their job to a Tea Party loonytoon to be exact. Since they are scared of losing their jobs they will act like and do anything the Tea Party tells them to do. How did the Tea Party really scare these life time politicians, well it wasn't with those stupid hats and signs, if was with primarying candidates that didn't do what they wanted.
Democrats and progressives need to get of there collective butts and start putting the fear of change into every Blue dog, coperaDem, conserveaDem and Dino and primary them. If we don't challenge them they will just continue doing what they are doing. It's truly time to organize but instead of making signs and marching we need to find and fund candidates that represent the people and at the very least scare the conservative out of the incumbent.
