Perry and Bachman: Sucking on the same teat
Sam Stein delivers
another round of evidence that Michele Bachmann is a closet socialist:
A Freedom of Information Act request filed by The Huffington Post with three separate federal agencies reveals that on at least 16 separate occasions, Bachmann petitioned the federal government for direct financial help or aid. A large chunk of those requests were for funds set aside through President Obama's stimulus program, which Bachmann once labeled "fantasy economics."
You may recall that her pal Rick Perry is every bit as hypocritical, demanding federal aid for Texas to fight wildfires, even criticizing the administration for giving aid more quickly to Alabama after it was struck by devastating tornadoes:
Texas Governor Rick Perry criticized the Obama administration on Thursday for not responding to a request for a disaster aid for the parched state, where wildfires have scorched nearly 2 million acres.
So it turns out that Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry aren't against federal spending. They're just against federal spending that doesn't go to their states.
But at least they don't use federal programs for personal purposes, right?
Wrong. Bachmann has repeatedly lined her own pockets with federal funds and in 2009 Perry used $11 million from the stimulus legislation to repair his governor's mansion in Texas.
So both Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann are socialists. It's just that they think they should be the only ones to benefit from it.
