Will there be mudslinging from an unprovoked attack on Israel? But who will the real losers be?
How many know about the Turks bombing the Kurds as retaliation for a Kurdish ambush?
” ISTANBUL — Turkish warplanes bombed suspected Kurdish insurgent positions inside northern Iraq late Wednesday for the first time in a year, news services in Turkey reported, hours after an insurgent ambush on a military convoy in southeast Turkey left at least eight dead.”
Here
We all know about the Thursday coordinated and unprovoked terrorist attack occurred in Israel that took eight Israeli lives and dozens of injuries.
Here
And Israel retaliated by killing the leadership of the terror group behind the ambush.
Now Hamas comes into the picture with its unrelenting missile attacks on Israeli civilian population centers.
“Rocket fire from the Gaza Strip intensified Saturday morning in the second day of attacks that followed IDF strikes on the Strip, responding to a deadly terror attack near Eilat Thursday, in which eight Israelis were killed and dozens injured. The IDF Spokesman's Office said that over 45 rockets have been fired at Israel from the Gaza Strip in the past 48 hours. Buy Saturday evening, the number was above 50.”
And,
“Hamas claims responsibility for Beersheba, Ofakim attacks; Ofakim: rocket lands on house causing shrapnel injuries to baby, nine-year-old, man; More than 55 rockets fired from Gaza into southern region.”
Here
Not it gets a bit more complicated. With approximately 10% of the Israeli population in bomb shelters because of the offensive rocket attacks from Gaza, Israel cannot stand idly by. No country can accept the disruption of such a large portion of its population being taken off line not to mention the civilian casualties. If the rockets don’t stop soon, the Israeli leadership will have only one option and that is to massively retaliate.
We’ve seen nothing yet.
In my humble opinion….so much of what is going on is related to political game playing from Arab players in the region. Assad needs to take pressure off his crackdown. Egypt’s current leadership needs to earn its stripes with its restless population by distancing itself from Hosni Mubarak by pushing against Israel. Then there is Hezbollah that needs to further consolidate its hold on Lebanon and deflect the Hariri assignation investigation.
The PLO has their game to play and it’s coming up in September to push for a State.
The losers will be the ordinary Israelis and Palestinians, Lebanese and Egyptians. Soon to be added to the list will be King Abdullah II of Jordan where 1,900,000 Palestinian reside out of a population of 6.4 million (UNRWA).
Where does this leave Israel? In a very difficult position.
