The first redistricting map I ever made back at SSP was a theoretical Republican gerrymander of New York. It had some kinks, New York is an ambitious project, so I’ve had another crack at the same problem starting from scratch.
The “Republican” districts are all R+4-5 except one which is R+3, not ultra safe and certainly a probable dummymander in Democratic wave years but you have to set the line somewhere. Democratic districts are at least D+28 downstate and D+15 upstate. Republicans would start favoured in 14 of the 27 seats. The VRA is complied with.
The map uses extensive water contiguity, sometimes in unexpected ways, so I’ve included maps at the end of the diary to clarify how districts are connected in areas where it is a bit unclear.
The colours are as traditional for DRA, I’ve described the district instead)
