Penny Young Nance, the head of Concerned Women for America, is ever so pissed about the “smearing” of Santorum. You can take that however you want to take it – either way, it’s true.
In a column she wrote yesterday for Fox News, she takes Google to task for not altering its search results so Rick Santorum’s “official” website is #1. It’s just not fair. Santorum is being “bullied” by big, mean, stinky Dan Savage, and Penny Young Nance is not happy.
She writes angrily:
Former Senator Rick Santorum (R-Penn.) is the father of seven children, a devout Catholic, and current GOP presidential candidate. But when someone types his name into the Google search box, the very first result that appears is a website detailing a sex act “by-product” named after the senator. In fact, the Senator’s own website is the fourth result.
By contrast, Rick Santorum’s website is the first result that both Yahoo and Bing give the user. According to SEO Researcher, it’s estimated that over 56 percent of users click on the first result that comes up in their search, and only 13 percent click on the second result. Beyond that, the click-thru numbers are miniscule.
[…]
Sen. Santorum said that he suspects “if something was up there like that about Joe Biden, they’d get rid of it. … To have a business allow that type of filth to be purveyed through their website or through their system is something that they say they can’t handle, but I suspect that’s not true.”
So, of course, it’s all a big liberal conspiracy perpetrated by those dirty hippies at Google and big, mean, stinky Dan Savage to make sure Rick Santorum is forever associated with anal intercourse. Okay.
One can sense some hostility resulting from when Dan Savage took Penny to task for her attack on the Google Chrome "It Gets Better" commercial. Bitter much?
She goes on to say:
Just because someone disagrees with you, it gives you no right to deface and smear their name in such a way that the website comes up as the first result in a Google search during a presidential campaign.
Okay, Penny, lemme stop ya there. Actually, it does. Which is why it’s currently happening and there’s not a damn thing you can do about it except cry to your Fox News audience. If you don’t like it, change your search settings. For everybody else, may Santorum spread!
She finishes the article with the following obnoxious demand:
Google needs to do the right thing as a company and deliver what is best for the consumer when they type in “Santorum.” If someone wants another result, they can ask for it; but no one searching on the senator’s name should be subjected to the hatred and hypocritical bullying of Dan Savage and a left-leaning company who refuses to correct an injustice.
First of all (and this should go without saying), Penny Young Nance is full of shit in just about every way imaginable.
Secondly, I might argue that the “Spreading Santorum” site is what’s “best for the consumer.” After all, before “Spreading Santorum,” what did we call it? We actually had to say the words “frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the by-product of anal sex.” Who wants to go back to those dark ages?
Thirdly, it’s laughable – to say the least – that Penny Young Nance is alleging the “bullying” of Rick Santorum. No, Penny, “bullying” is what you call it when a gay kid is called a “fag” so many times that he hangs himself in his family’s barn. You know, the same gay kid Rick Santorum would compare to a dog-fucker.
So pardon me if I’m not very sympathetic to the “poor Rick Santorum” meme. Should we review some of the shit that’s come out of his mouth? Should we get in the muck and examine the slimy, revolting things he has said, things that make Savage's website pale in comparison?
Rick Santorum brings this “smearing” on himself every time he opens his hateful mouth. And, I’m sorry, Penny Young Nance, but you’re just exacerbating his "Google problem."
