This is what the Democrats need to do!! If you haven't seen it, freshman Republican Rep. Rob Woodall (GA)was asked many factual questions from Chris Matthews and Rep. Robert Andrews (D-NJ). What followed is what the democrats should have done during the last 2 years when it comes to health care reform.
Disclaimer: The word "destroyed" in the title is by no way a threat or a wish to be harmed in any way.
First, here's the link. Sorry, no transcript.
Hardball
During the interview, Rep. Woodall backtracked, stuttered, and couldn't answer a straight "yes" or "nor" question. He was attacked from every angle using facts, logic, explanations of the mandate, and ration thought. The segment opened up with Chris Matthews asking why are they trying to repeal HCR of there is no way that repeal will currently happen. His answer? Because that is what the Republicans said they would do during the election. Doesn't matter whether it is even possible or a waste of valuable time.
Then, Rep. Woodall stated that the Republicans are for the provision that people cannot get denied for pre-existing conditions. This is where it got fun for me, and screaming at the tv, "This is whatthe dems should have done all along!" Chris Matthews and Rep. Andrews jumped all over this. Re. Andrews constantly asked Rep. Woodall what the Republican plan is to stop premium increases if the healthy would not be mandated to get health insurance, since the health insurance pools would be filled with people who are sick or have pre-existing conditions. Rep. Woodall would not directly answer the question, and Rep. Andrews constantly asked, "What is the Republican plan?" Still, he obviously has no direct answer.
Next, Chris Matthews brought up Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney and states mandating health insurance. After constant questioning, Rep. Woodall conceded that he was not for a mandate of anything.
Finally, the last topic.....wait for it.....Rep. Andrews asked Rep. Woodall if he thought there were death panels in the bill. You think he had a direct, "yes" or "no". Of course he didn't. You think Rep. Andrews and Chris Matthews let him off the hook? Of course they didn't. Eventually, Rep. Woodall gave this long answer at which point Rep. Andrews stated, "that's the long way of saying no."
This is a must see for anyone. Sorry about the crappy summary, but a transcript is not out yet. Again, this is what the democrats need to do over and over again.
