Less than 24 hours after having his intro to "Monday Night Football" sacked, Hank Williams, Jr. has apologized for comparing Obama to Hitler.
"I have always been very passionate about politics and sports and this time it got the best or worst of me," the country singer said in a statement.
"The thought of the leaders of both parties jukin' [sic] and high fiven' [sic] on a golf course, while so many families are struggling to get by, simply made me boil over and make a dumb statement, and I am very sorry if it offended anyone. I would like to thank all my supporters. This was not written by some publicist," Williams wrote.
Williams made the announcement on his blog. Apparently it didn't come without some prodding. Hours earlier, the Anti-Defamation League condemned Williams' remarks and praised ESPN's decision to yank his usual intro segment. ESPN is mum on his future.
Give Williams credit for almost getting it right, though. He admitted that his remarks were stupid, but he could have done it without the "sorry if I was offended" crap.
The statement likely pours a cold douche on teabagger-in-chief Judson Phillips' call for a boycott of Disney. Phillips also suggested that Williams challenge Bob Corker in the Republican primary for Senate.
