Okay, so Herman Cain is the current WSJ front-runner. Big deal; I think Donald Trump was the WSJ front-runner once.
What I'm wondering as I'm listening to Thom Hartmann right now, that Thom is asking, is, "What is used food?"
Seems that Mr. Cain wants to add a 9% sales tax on all new items. So someone asked, what should the poor do, who don't have enough money as it is, to do about the tax? His response was, "Buy used."
Someone followed up on this, asking about what to do about food? His response was, "Buy used."
Okay, I don't know about most of you, but when I have used food, it's really not edible.
And, I suppose he'd slap a 9% tax on seeds, because they're new.
Of course, there's a silver lining here. As written in ThinkProgress:
Pressed About His Plan To Raise Taxes On Food, Herman Cain Says Poor People Should Just Buy Used Goods
By Marie Diamond on Oct 12, 2011 at 6:05 pm
Asked to “explain why under your plan all Americans should be paying more for milk, for a loaf of bread, and beer?” Cain noted that under his plan “there is no tax on used goods.”
Yes, folks; Herman Cain obviously hates rednecks! He's going to charge a 9% tax on beer! Take that, Hank Williams Jr. and all you Red Sox pitchers!
And the worst part is, the plan is so regressive, the fools in the GOP and Tea Party have no clue that it's in their worst economic interest.
Some days, the Republicans just absolutely astound me.
