"A Republican Maryland" or "Because shouldn't we see if all the DKE sidebar dairies can be Maryland maps?"
A Republican gerrymander of Maryland wouldn't have to shoot for only a 4-4 split, which is quite easy, when a 5-3 split is reachable with a bit of luck.
The five Republican districts in this map are all at least R+5 but importantly also smash the existing Democratic districts to pieces preventing incumbants from holding an advantage.
1st (Blue) 79.3% Obama. Chris Van Hollen's district, I guess, but the large amount of new territory could cost him in a primary. Unfortunately for him his house has been removed from the district.
2nd (Green) 89.9% Obama. 67.1% Black. Elijah Cummings has a significantly more packed district now.
3rd (Dark Magenta) 90.9% Obama. 69.7% Black. Donna Edwards isn't going to be thrilled that this district no longer extends into Montgomery County.
4th (Red) 47.3% Obama. Annapolis, the Eastern Shore, and Steny Hoyer's house.
5th (Gold) 48.1% Obama. Dutch Ruppersberger, John Sarbanes, and Andy Harris all live in this new district. Probably an agreement would be reached for one of the Dems to run in the 8th.
6th (Teal) 48.8% Obama. Roscoe Bartlett's district now runs into MontCo a bit.
7th (Dark Grey) 48.9% Obama.
8th (Slate Blue) 48.9% Obama.
