As if on cue, Obama is finding broad support for most, if not all, the proposals he has laid out in the American Jobs Act. And it looks like a way to pay for it has emerged: higher taxes on millionaires.
The CNN poll out today has some interesting, and reassuring, numbers out regarding Obama and the economy. The most reassuring to myself personally is the broad support for a higher tax on those making a million dollars a year or more.
Please tell me whether you favor or oppose the following:
Increasing the taxes paid by people who make more than
one million dollars a year
Favor: 76% Oppose: 24%
Not that I am upset that I haven't heard 'debt' and 'debt ceiling' in the headlines every day like this past summer, but raising revenue while getting something going through Obama's bill is important. And it is clear that he has the public on his side. When 3/4 quarters of the people believe we should raise taxes on millionaires, it is no wonder that #occupywallstreet met its one month anniversary with no end in sight.
Naturally, more money to first responders and teachers, infrastructure spending, and extending unemployment, all sensible ideas, all enjoy broad support. But this glaring tidbit in the poll is too good to pass up.
They only call it class warfare when we decide to fight back...
