So it's come full circle.
Remember that faux-populist rant from CNBC's Rick Santelli against bailouts for underwater homeowners to the cheers of floor traders that started that whole Tea Party craze way back in February 2009?
You may not know that this spark that so emboldened Wall Street opposition to bailouts for Main Street didn't actually take place on Wall Street.
The launch of the Tea Party generally and the Chicago Tea Party specifically happened on the trading floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME).
The same Chicago Mercantile Exchange, which since its 2007 merger with the Chicago Board of Trade is the WORLD'S LARGEST DERIVATIVES EXCHANGE.
Oh and yes, these are the same folks who gave us this response to the 99 percent protesting at Occupy Chicago:
One would think to get to this point that Chicago and Illinois had been a pretty good home for CME Group dating back to CME's start in 1898 and CBOT's start in 1848. I mean that's only a combined 276 years in Chicago. That's all.
But guess what? CME, which reported 900 million in profits last year, just can't do on such a meager pittance.
So in this week's Veto Session of the Illinois General Assembly in Springfield, CME Group is currently shaking down Illinois taxpayers for the tune of $75 MILLION PER YEAR!
The total package of corporate giveaways in this deal, including breaks for the Chicago Board Options Exchange as well as CME, is estimated at about $100 million per year.
To put this highway robbery in perspective, Illinois officials already turned heads with its crony capitalism when Pat Quinn extended tax breaks to a threatening-to-leave Motorola in a deal that gives them $100 million over 10 years.
Unfortunately it is Democrats in this state who are threatening public employee union rights at the same time they are giving the Masters of the Universe even more chips to gamble with and further jeopardize our economy.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is pushing hard for the deal behind the scenes.
Senator John Cullerton has proposed the bill in the Senate.
And Illinois Democratic Party Chairman and House Speaker Michael Madigan will ensure this measure passes in the House.
Speaking of Madigan, you may recall that he recently attended a fundraiser for House Speaker John Boehner with CME CEO Terry Duffy.
Some blue state where the Democratic Party controls everything yet does a better job executing the Tea Party's pro-business, anti-worker, anti-consumer agenda even better than Walker and Kasich.
If DKos wants to champion more, better Democrats, can we please get to work in Illinois?
