Do not forget to tell your families… tell your families… tell your friends… tell your friends… tell your neighbors… tell your neighbors… make this choice:… make this choice:… vote with your dollars… vote with your dollars.
Tell your politicians… tell your politicians… to hold Wall Street accountable… to hold Wall Street accountable. These are the things we can do… these are the things we can do… It starts today... tt starts today… Thank You… Thank You.
I’m Kim Foche at Northwest Resource Credit Union. We started having conversations with people at Occupy and we’re really excited that everybody decided to march here today. All you have to do is fill out an application, have 2 forms of ID and $5. The $5 isn’t a fee it’s your money it just keeps your account open.
Corporate Banks exists to serve their stockholders that’s who they make money for. Credit Unions exist to help people. Our profits are returned to the members in the form of better rates and lower fees so it gets more money in their pockets which they can recirculate into the community. Our Board of Directors are all volunteers, they are Credit Union members, they are not paid. We don’t exist to pay stockholders, we’re about people and not profit.
I’m here to join a Federal Credit Union. One of the main motivations is that this Credit Union is free ATMs throughout the world and you don’t have to be a Federal employee to be part of it.
I am a supporter of Occupy Portland that is why Bank of America and other banks made choices to stop their fees you know because people are supporting the 99% even if they are not there sleeping out on the ground every night.
I’m talking about 88 year old ladies who are on Social Security and are getting all messed around with Medicare and Medicade and all this other stuff. They’re not going to be marching they are too old you know but they’re there and they’re people and they feel like its about time. Somebody is doing something. “What are these young people doing?” So they are really a big supporter of yours.
Opening a bank account is a positive step and as far as the action goes we wanted to do a positive action and also to counteract the notion that’s being put out there that’s its just too inconvenient to move your money. You know, we are being told as Americans “don’t lift a finger” “it’s got to be convenient”. And what we’re saying is, you know what, maybe it’s a little bit more inconvenient to make this change but once you make this change its important and it matters because where our money is invested makes a difference for our community.
Unions are moving their money now some churches are moving their money. These are big chunks of money but I think the biggest chunks of money that we need to look at are our Municipal, County and State governments. They hold huge deposits and right now they deposit that money into the very same Wall Street banks that you know ran rough shot over our community.
The next steps from this local move your money movement, of individuals moving their money, are moving to the institutions. Getting the State of Oregon to move its money out of these Wall Street Banks. That’s where were going from here. Those are the next steps.
