IN CALIFORNIA
CLICK - California State Controller's Office Search Page
The only info required is your last name. I suggest leaving both city & first name blank-as some of my accounts only came up with only the last name.
OUTSIDE CALIFORNIA
CLICK National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators (NAUPA).
Then just click on your own state. Each state government has its own division or deptarment of "unclaimed funds." Each state I checked only requires your last name in the search function.
Don't be blindsided by the term "Property"-everything from you're owed from utility deposits, to inheritances, to past salaries, to insurance policy benefits, will be listed.
You don't even need to read the rest of this diary, as it just contains graphics explaining the links above.
--------------------------------------------------
So, as I said above, in California just-
1. Click-
California State Controller's Office
This box appears in the middle of the page-
Make sure you click the box I've circled in red (at least on the first try). Then hit search.
2. When the box below appears, you can right-click on the column of blue numbers I've highlighted in red to open a new window with the details of that account
3. The specifics of the account will appear as below if the $ has already been turned over to the state. You can then fill out the request form, sign it, & mail/fax it to the state. If the company hasn't turned the $ over yet, the contact info to the company will appear & you can contact them directly (& quicker).
If you live outside of California, you'll start at National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators (NAUPA) map below & then follow the links for your own state.
If after getting your money that people are actually trying to put into your hands, & after putting some holiday food on your table, you have any left over...you might consider spreading the warmth a bit by dropping some of it off
-here (with the appropriate link at that diary's end).
Still wishing you all the best luck during the holiday season.
Hope you find something for yourself, your family, or your friends.
