Unless people have been hiding beneath a rock, they are familiar with the Emma Sullivan/Sam Brownback incident.
It outrages me to see a student bullied, especially by the school's administration. Therefore, I searched for a way to report this injustice. Thankfully, Emma's high school has given me the opportunity to do just that. The method follows the squiggle of truth.
On the Shawnee East High School website there is a "report bullying" form.
On the form, I entered the following:
"It has come to my attention that one of your students, Emma Sullivan, is being bullied by school administration for making a political statement. Specifically, she is being bullied by the school's principal, Karl Krawitz at the behest of Gov. Sam Brownback. As such, I am asking the school to force principal Krawitz to issue a public written apology to Ms. Sullivan for infringing upon her first amendment rights and using this sad incident as a teachable moment. If Mr. Krawitz has not issued a full, sincere, public written apology by the end of the week, I will notify the American Civil Liberties Union of the school's failure to protect and willingness to suppress the first amendment rights of its students."
I encourage all of you to do the same.
NOTE: In my comment in the recommended diary, I had written "Karl Krawitz and Gov. Sam Brownback". I changed it to "Karl Krawitz at the behest of Gov. Sam Brownback" in my submission to the school's website. I felt it was a good change.
