Well, it's official now. The Greek people won't get a voice in the "bailout deal" which will enslave them for the next decade or two.
At least there was a short-lived glimmer of hope. No matter how cynically it came about.
After months of implementing draconian austerity on the Greek people to satisfy the French/German banks, Prime Minister Georgios A. Papandreou discovered that his masters were preparing to dump him overboard soon after he was finished doing their dirty work implementing their bailout deal. His domestic unpopularity had become a liability for them and soon they wouldn't need him any more anyway.
To save his power, he decided to try to become an instant populist by calling for a democratic referendum on the bailouts/euro/austerity/enslavement. Little did he know that the European 1% own enough corrupt politicians in Athens to fire him instantly, instead of waiting till after the deal is done. So, all indications are that he will be gone by tomorrow. Having seen his bluff called, G-Pap has already canceled his own proposed referendum as he tries to beg forgiveness from his masters.
Where is the international news media in all this? Have you noticed that none of the news organizations can find any Greek citizens who want to have a say on their bailoutsenslavement. Voices against the direct democratic referendum are getting plenty of airtime, while nobody seems to question why the corrupt politicians in Athens oppose a referendum.
Oh well, it was good to have some hope for participatory democracy for a day. Here's hoping a strong, real democracy will emerge in Greece from these ashes.
