Good morning, and is this thing on? Welcome to Saturday Morning Garden Blogging
It's been a weird couple of garden blogging weeks — last weekend we busted the beta edition of dk4 real good.
Yesterday we didn't have normal, 7:00:00 a.m. Mountain time Saturday Morning Garden Blogging (but I did post the last diary on dk3 with Not Saturday Morning Garden Blogging at 10:00:01 Mountain time).
Today we have Sunday Morning Saturday Morning Garden Blogging. One would think I would be well prepared, given the extra day — but I'm not. I spent yesterday finishing the knitting portion of the Shawl from Hell; still have a few days worth of tying off and weaving in yarn ends, then getting it washed and blocked before it's finished.
And the weather this week — oy! The last storm gave us a half-foot of snow spread out over several days; a high of only 8° on Tuesday and an overnight low of -7°.
But we've bounced back, today the forecast high is for 63°, and the rest of the work week will remain very mild. We may get our early spring here on the Front Range after all. When the snow melts I'll be able to see if I'll have any crocus, like this one from last year, blooming before the last day of February this year (the photo was from the first week of March 2010).
And then it will be a mere month before the hyacinth explosion in my front yard.
We're two weeks from the 6th anniversary of Saturday Morning Garden Blogging. As we head into the seventh year, and because the group function of dk4 makes it possible, I'd like to take some regularly scheduled Saturday mornings off — the 2nd Saturday of each month to be exact.
I've set up a Saturday Morning Garden Blogging Group; let me know if you're willing to take on shepherding this venerable series into the new dK4 era. I think I need two more "admins" — people who will help take on policing the Saturday Morning Garden Blogging group (making sure only real SMGB, and not azalea, is published under the group's auspices; helping in the continuous effort to keep flame wars out of the garden, and the like).
Then we'll need "editors" — people who (along with the admins) will be actually writing Saturday Morning Garden Blogging, and are willing to abide by the two rules: first, you must post on Saturday morning at 7:00 Mountain time (9:00 Eastern, 8:00 Central, 6:00 Pacific) — the "publication" function will make that part easy; and you must commit to spending at least the first 2 hours on that Saturday morning playing host. SMGB is not a place where you can post a diary and dash off.
I think it's advisable, at least at this stage, to keep the actual group membership small and limited to those who are willing to be writing the usual Saturday Morning Garden Blogging entries. Please send me a message if you are willing to be a writer, or the other admin, for SMGB. I'll send out the invitations later this morning.
You will not need to be a member of the group if you are not going to be posting Saturday Morning Garden Blogging — you can find Saturday Morning Garden Blogging by following (clicking on the little heart) the group.
Please also note — with this diary I'm adding a new tag, SMGB, to separate this series from other garden-related tags.
So next week, a more usual version of Saturday Morning Garden Blogging.
The last week in February, the 6th Anniversary Edition of Saturday Morning Garden Blogging.
And then into March, where we'll continue on as a "group" series.
That's what's happening here. What's going on in your garden?

Have sent in a bug report about the lag, and about the shifting screen focus.
Oh, and seeing if they have this widget fixed!
