Normally, I write about Minnesota politics so this post is a change. Joe Bodell and I (we run MN Progressive Project) presented a panel at the Creating Change conference which took place two weeks ago in Minneapolis. We talked about how to get the media to pay attention to your issue.
Amongst the attendees was Marsha Aizumi. She's from Arcadia, CA. She came to MN on a horridly frigid weekend in support of her son who is transgender. She came to our panel because she was very concerned that her Mayor had invited Focus on the Family to come to her town.
She wanted to know what she could do to counter the Mayor and this horrible and hateful organization. We laid out a strategy of how she could raise awareness of this.
This video is stage One:
We explained that there were loads of California bloggers, many of whom Joe knows, who would love to help her get the word out. We explained that she needed to start using Facebook and Twitter to organize against FotF. We gave her the names of several sites with instructions about how to use Facebook and Twitter.
We encouraged her to be brave and bold.
We hope you'll help her her at dKos. I'm sure there are plenty of you in and around Arcadia (or wherever) who can help spread the word on this and help organize. She's a compassionate and dedicated woman who I think is a great advocate for love and tolerance and against hate and intolerance.
