In all my years of protesting, this was the closest rally to my house yet. It was less than a mile away from my house, and I'm guessing there were 70 people there.
I took pictures, met up with some old friends, and took heart from being around agitators.
Most of the demonstrators were teachers. They all had red shirts on and they were chanting "Chop from the top!" which I heartily endorse.
I had fun talking to teachers too, and explaining that I was there to support public education, but also to raise my voice against the redistribution of wealth that has gone on for the last 30 years. I think several people I talked to hadn't really looked at the bigger picture, so maybe I helped link our causes in a small way. Here I am with my homemade sign:
There were some other anti corporate types there too, and they let me take pictures of them.
This is the first time I have ever posted images before. I hope I'm doing it right, but if I blow it I would love to hear how to do it right. For anyone else image challenged I went here for help.
Although I have protested for many years now, I'm doing a few things different recently. The biggest one is that I'm telling people in my life that I think it's time to stand up against the wealth redistribution and I am standing up. Maybe they still won't go to the protests, but I really believe that people are starting to feel irritated by what has happened to this country over the last 30 years and when I mention that I think the discomfort we are feeling is part of a 30 game plan people are starting to take notice. If they start thinking our side will win, because we are in the right (that is unless you are a wealthy selfish jerk. Then you think we are wrong.)
Americans are deeply conformist, and when enough of us stand up and say the emperor has no clothes, the people on the right will suddenly develop eyes to see. Though it still looks hopeless sometimes, it's important to remember that when we get critical mass the opposition will fold. No, not the monied interests, but the working class people that are currently their minions will suddenly remember that they are working class people. Take heart my fellow dissidents, change is coming!Updated by Renee at Wed Mar 16, 2011 at 03:03 PM PDT
It looks like I still don't know how to embed pictures. Here are the links for the pictures I used:
