A crazed and defiant Col. Kaddafi remaining a man of his word, made an unexpected appearance on Libyan State TV yesterday to rant and rave about fighting to the last drop of Libyan blood. Clearly the mark of a demented mind, Kaddafi insists on taking on the entire world before relinquishing power to opposition forces trying to free themselves from his grip. In his customary yelling, fist pumping and wild-eyed delivery Col. Kaddafi lied to loyalist, telling them the world was on their side and victory would be theirs if they fought the imperialistic crusaders from the West.
As the international community struggles to figure out who is going to take control of military operations when the United States fall back into a support role, President Obama is being forced to defend his efforts against a barrage of politically inspired criticism. Returning from South America, the President will face a bipartisan chorus of Congressional cackling Asses, demanding an explanation for their exclusion from his decision to take action.
Despite the most carefully constructed international response to an impending humanitarian crisis in recent memory, President Obama was hammered by those on the left and the right who failed to read or comprehend UN Resolution 1973. From Liberal House Representative Dennis J. Kucinich to Senate Conservative John McCain, the President has felt the baseless barbs of excoriation. If one took the time to dissect this document, they would be able to appreciate the mandate of the Libyan mission as well as the limitations of any military engagement.
In our opinion, based on the United States Congress' inability to reach a consensus on anything the President proposes, the entire Arab world would have gone up in flames while they grandstanded for local constituencies. With the 2012 election season getting underway, Right-wing political hacks trying to establish their foreign policy credentials are sniping at President Obama from all directions. Showing little more than their ignorance of the Arab Street or an understanding for the need to reset the narrative of US foreign policy toward the Middle East, political loose canons are misfiring blanks by the minute. Whether by design or by honest cluelessness, the end result is an undermining of the President's global stature.
Upon his return, President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton must find a way to silence the domestic stooges with discernible progress against the loudmouthed maniac Muammar Kaddafi, if they are to maintain the momentum for change in the Arab states. The best way to shut the mouths of myopic Republican magpies is to take Col. Kaddafi off the world stage by force post haste with US Special Forces on the down low. Short of this outcome, the idiocy of domestic politics could prove stifling to the way forward.
In this instance, we think the US Congress should be restricted to the mismanagement of the American economy. At least the damage they will inflict can be confined primarily to US shores. This 112th Congress should leave the global interaction to those skilled in dealing with the intricacies of international concerns. While their egos won't allow them to acknowledge it, the quick pace of change occurring around the world is clearly above their capacity to effectively engage.
If you're wondering where we gained our Middle East foreign policy expertise from, enjoy this movie... Somethings never change:)
