Nurse Kelley's Quilt
Short diary this week -- to be enjoyed mostly in your comments. This is a diary to share your work! Please share what you are working on and any pieces that are particular favorites.
We've finished several things this week. Lt. Choi's quilt is done:
Lt. Choi's quilt, "American Hero"
It looks more complex than it is. The medallion provides visual interest -- and the messages are arranged around it with alternating border fabrics.
Nurse Kelley's quilt was the big accomplishment. Here you can see the backing fabric -- a print I just love and which she chose.
Here is another shot of the medallion. Note that the purple border print looks sort of polka dotted? Those are nurse's caps...
There is also a charm patch in the quilt featuring a drawing of a nurse that I think looks pretty much like Kelley. I'd like to be a fly on the wall when she finds it....
This is Ben Masel's quilt, pin basted. It is now tied and only has the hand stitching of the binding left to do. As you can see, it is a very simple checkerboard charm quilt. The border fabric is the backing from Kelley's quilt. I like simple quilts sometimes -- there is something very comforting about simple geometry, even a checkerboard.
Please share your work -- and if anyone would like to write next week's diary, please raise a hand! And thank you, mamamorgaine, for your excellent diary last week on applique.
