If the Republicans present an unfair shortterm 'deal', that matches what President Obama said he would veto, he damn well better veto it.
The R's are admired by the U.S. public for having a position and sticking to it, even when it is stupid. Even when they aren't sure it's the right thing to do. But they admire a man who has character, and a backbone, and who says what he's going to do, and then does what he said.
One thing is for sure. The earth will not explode if the U.S. defaults.

While we should never ever have ended up here, we HAVE to make sure that the ultimate plan that is enacted is actually a GREAT one, and that it will ACTUALLY strengthen our country.
If that means that President Obama has to veto the first thing that is presented to him by the asshats in Congress, then so be it.
The pressure will be on them BIG TIME to come up with something he will sign once he veto's their first attempt.
They can spend an hour or two pointing fingers, but their corporate 'friends' will quickly make the point that they better figure out the meaning of the word compromise FAST.
President Obama should lay down a very deep line in the sand, and then line up his veto pens until a serious plan that is fair, bipartisan AND generates both revenue (and a lot of it) and spending cuts, is presented to him.
At this point, our country is no longer viewed as AAA, even if the rating hasn't changed. This political charade everyone is playing now isn't going to fool the ratings companies one bit.
We've passed over into the real world where the political posturing has actually damaged our country...and the way to make it right is to have a little backbone.
I hope that in the next week or so, as history unfolds, it ends up being made perfectly clear that the Democratic Party will fight for what is right...which in this case may mean allowing the country to go into default for the first time, so that the R's are forced to sit down at the table and actually COMPROMISE.
Of course, I have little hope that any of this will happen, because the D's in Congress are already stretching so that they can bend over without throwing out their backs.
