Since I've started singing with Solidarity Sing-along I can't stop writing new lyrics to songs. Genesis's That's All turns into:
Why does it always seem to be, You taking my rights away from me,
It's always the same, it's just a shame that's all.
The truth is the right loves you, more that it ought to,
There's been no justice since you came.
You should leave, but you won't go.
We're gonna recall you, you know.
It's always the same, it's just a shame that's all.
Michael Jackson redux is right. You and I have to grab the idea of what America is away from our corporate overlords. We have to bring back and hammer home the basis of our country is a social compact.
Scott Walker while defending the indefensible claimed that he looked on Wisconsin like a small business. Leaving aside that actually our tin-pot governor has made decisions that are actually really bad for businesses, this metaphor has got to go. Government should in no way be compared to a business or thought to conform to the bogus business model.
We have got to bring back the idea of the social good; the common ground that we all stand on. The Radical Right Republicans who are driving us over a cliff should be forced to admit that they have gone way too far. They should be told in uncertain terms that no one has signed up for the extreme measures they want to force down our throats. They need to be told that what they are doing is beyond the pale and outside the national understanding of what America is and must remain. Enough already with our corporate overlords hiding behind the nonsense of fiscal responsibility and parading their puppets. We have got to grab the conversation and show people exactly how UnAmerican what they are doing is.
I leave you with another of my rewrites
Joy to Wisconsin. Walker is going down.
His polls have taken a nosedive.
Let every person prepare for the recalls.
And you and I canvass
And you and I phonebank
And it will be heaven and heaven when we win.
