It should be obvious to everyone here that Washington isn't listening. What the people of America want and need right now is not getting a hearing, and instead our leaders are obsessed with the false "problem" of deficit and debt, and promoting more tax cuts for their rich friends and corporate bosses.
What do the people need? Lots of things individually, but overall we probably could list most of it under jobs and security. And under security we can list healthcare (including Medicare) and Social Security, plus unemployment benefits, welfare payments, food stamps, mortgage protection, etc. In times like these, jobs and security programs should be expanding, not being cut.
So how can people get the attention of Washington? Maybe sheer numbers can do it. It worked in Wisconsin, so maybe it can work in D.C.
Here's the idea. Whoever can do it, show up on the mall in D.C. on Labor Day. Maybe bring camping gear, and start a modern-day Hooverville. Others would donate money and resources to support them.
