Turns out a new CNN poll has the numbers for the GOP out, and they aren't pretty.
The aftermath of the debt deal and the hostage taking by the GOP is manifesting itself in public polling. This is just the beginning of what I believe will be a further deteriorating in they eyes of the public for the Republicans to be serious whatsoever in governing.
The 2012 House and Presidential elections, and to a certain extent the Senate, will necessitate drawing the contrast to the American people once again, lest they be tempted to put more of these crazies in power. Sifting through the ruins of our country over the last few years has been rough, but it is imperative for Democrats to show how ridiculous the GOP has become.
Fifty-nine percent of voters polled said they had an unfavorable opinion of the Republican Party, with 33 percent calling their opinion favorable. The Tea Party did not poll well, either, with 51 percent saying they have an unfavorable opinion of the movement.
How these jokers could be even more unpopular is not hard to contemplate given their recent lunacy. But the unpopularity of the GOP is going to have to remain high for Democrats to retake the house and provide President Obama the margins he needs to win. That's why contrasts matter, and these types of contrasts matter: your right to collectively bargain, or tax cuts for business and the wealthy. These themes will be important for the next cycle because the fact is the economy is gonna suck by most measures, even if we start to accelerate.
But we should remind the American people who they can trust to make the right decisions for them. And the silver lining in the debt deal seems to be how ridiculous the GOP looks in comparison to President Obama and the Democrats.
