We have so many insightful and powerful diaries written here at Daily Kos. Our diaries inform, inflame, impassion, and even entertain. We Kossacks have strong voices and an even stronger will to be the change we wish to see in this country.
One of the richest, and perhaps most under-appreciated, areas of thought come in the form of comments attached to these diaries.
Here at Top Comments we strive to recognize and promote the talent of this community by highlighting outstanding comments found throughout the day by the diarist, and through nominations at made at TopComments at gmail dot com by your fellow Kossacks.
These nominations are subjective, and certainly not complete (as no one can read the complete site on a daily basis!). But we hope they will serve to shine a light where deserved, and to give the reader a good starting point in finding conversation on the site.

There's no big To Do in tonight's Top Comments diary. No Emmy celebrations, mostly because I don't have a television, so what's the point in getting excited about the television shows I don't see and the actors I wouldn't know if I saw them on the street—not that I would, because they tend not to frequent small towns in Massachusetts…but I digress. (Of course, in this situation, digressions are good for turning a tiny diary into merely a small one, so I suppose I shouldn't be too hasty.) No baseball, football, or other sporting event to highlight, because…oh wait, I already told you about the television. Hmm.
I buckled last night and turned on the heat shortly after sunset when the temperatures plummeted again, and the house went below sixty degrees (Farenheit, of course). Last year I made it into October, I think, before succumbing; if not, then certainly past the equinox. Nothing emphasizes the end of summer like having the furnace running and the forced hot air blower humming in the background. And, of course, having activated the heat, I realize I forgot to have the furnace cleaned this summer. I think I'd better call and make an appointment. (No, not now: I have a diary to finish.)
So, probably not what you expected in a Top Comments diary tonight. As it wasn't what I expected, I think that makes us even. Unless one of us makes a To Do over it, which would, under the circumstances be odd. Or do I mean even odder?

Tonight's comments nominations were submitted by two of my follow Top Comments diarists. They know the address, and the usual 9:30pm eastern deadline, so I received them without any problems. When you next find a comment to send to us, please send it to this email address:
TopComments AT gmail DOT com
(change " AT " to "@" and " DOT " to ".")
Anyone can send us great comments. Be sure to include the direct link to a comment—the URL—which is available from that comment's date/time; we need that to find your choice. Please always include your Daily Kos user name in the body of your message, so we can credit you properly. If you send a writeup with the link, we are able to include that, too, though we reserve the right to edit. Today involved a little editing, and one nomination being written from scratch to go with the submitted comment link.
From bronte17:
In hannah's post Relief for the Constipated Elite, Libby Shaw says Google's CEO claims US business is just waiting for DC to act to create jobs, and says we need to rebuild our infrastructure. Lisa has a snappy comeback to this...
From brillig:
A good friend wrote his first diary today, on his unemployment saga. I am sure Richard Cranium isn't the only one who feels this way.
From sardonyx (your done in Sunday diarist):
In Denise Oliver Velez's excellent front-page post Race and racism: barriers and bridges, several excellent comments caught my eye: in quoting one of Denise's comments, Pluto points out some present economic realities, and wiseacre has some further thoughts in reply. In another thread, dopper0189 talks about our problems with emotional language as compared to the conservative opposition, with more good commentary downthread.
In ProfessorWho's diary Something Kind of Amazing Happened in My College History Class Last Week, RickShadey recounts how his college professor changed his political views, and OregonOak talks about American policy regarding competition.
This comment by Tyto Alba just missed getting nominated last night, and was instead mentioned in the comments of last night's Top Comments diary instead. As it was originally posted close enough to the deadline that it's also eligible tonight, I'm scooping it up for those who may have missed it then.
