We have so many insightful and powerful diaries written here at Daily Kos. Our diaries inform, inflame, impassion, and even entertain. We Kossacks have strong voices and an even stronger will to be the change we wish to see in this country.
One of the richest, and perhaps most under-appreciated, areas of thought come in the form of comments attached to these diaries.
Here at Top Comments we strive to recognize and promote the talent of this community by highlighting outstanding comments found throughout the day by the diarist, and through nominations at made at TopComments at gmail dot com by your fellow Kossacks.
These nominations are subjective, and certainly not complete (as no one can read the complete site on a daily basis!). But we hope they will serve to shine a light where deserved, and to give the reader a good starting point in finding conversation on the site.
Please come in and make yourself at home! Join us beneath the fold...
No, tonight's diary isn't a duplicate of last night's Top Comments diary, though the diarist is the same. (Anyone else notice that "postist" just wouldn't have worked in that sentence? And "poster" is iffy—I can easily imagine that some might picture an oversized sheet of paper hanging on the wall, and get terribly confused. Then again, my imagination sometimes needs a tune-up.) As this is in advance of a major holiday weekend, I suppose it isn't surprising that there hasn't been a huge rush to sign up for diary duty among the Top Comments crew. (We do, I'm happy to report, have volunteers for both Saturday and Sunday, so this won't become a sardonyx trifecta. Or tetrazini, if that's what a four-bagger is called.)
So no musings on summer, September, shoes, school, or other obvious "s" words. No ridiculous rhythms racing down the page, and angst-ridden alliterations are already altering to less artificial prose. Fortunately, I have only eleven minutes to finish this, preventing further excesses.

Tonight's comments nominations were not in excess of what we always hope for: there were a good half dozen gmail submissions today. I'm happy to report that the address of our mailbox for top comments submissions was supplied to a couple of nominators who followed through on sending in their selections. That address remains:
TopComments AT gmail DOT com
(change " AT " to "@" and " DOT " to ".")
Anyone can send us great comments. Be sure to include the direct link to a comment—the URL—which is available from that comment's date/time; we need that to find your choice. Please always include your Daily Kos user name in the body of your message, so we can credit you properly. If you send a writeup with the link, we are able to include that, too, though we reserve the right to edit. Today involved a little editing, and one nomination being written from scratch to go with the submitted comment link.
From Crashing Vor:
While teacherken and Eugene Robinson ponder just what Bush and Cheney hath wrought, miguelmas1 sums up a dismal decade in four words.
From Seneca Doane:
In David Nir's Elections Morning Digest, liberalpragmatist makes a point that is not earth-shattering, but that is too often ignored, and it should be a part of our common understanding about political reality. It's worth people's time to read it.
From Puddytat:
I found this one by jfromga early. In fact, it's so good MB came out to give it a rec. It explains in a few short sentences why Boehner and the GOP are cooked.
From prgsvmama26:
IndyScott tells us what "independent" voters want, and has a suggestion.
From lotusmaglite:
This comment by Ken in MN is as pointed and caustic as the future air it describes. It's kind of bare-knuckled, witty-and-wise science we need more of around DK.
From Dragon5616:
Who says community moderation is dead? BiPM stepped into the breach in jotter's High Impact Posts today.
From sardonyx (your duplicate Friday diarist):
sfbob writes an excellent comment on the right to marry.
In PlutocracyFiles' interesting diary The Flaw, Noziglia supplies some recommended reading.
A couple of comments from cskendrick on the economy and the GOP, with some words of wisdom from Stirling Newberry: the first one here, and the downthread followup here.
