In 1988, near Atlanta, David Crowe killed a store manager of a lumber company that he previously worked for. Crowe shot Joseph Pala three times, and beat him with a crow bar and a paint pot.
Crow plead guilty to murder and armed robbery and was sentenced to death in 1989.
Less than three hours before Crowe's scheduled execution in May of 2008, the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles granted clemency and commuted the sentence to life without the possibility of parole.
"his lawyers presented a dossier of evidence attesting to his remorse and good behavior in jail, according to local media reports. The lawyers also said he was suffering from withdrawal symptoms from a cocaine addiction at the time of the crime."
