Not that we have anything to say about the Party's strategy, or have any influence, but as a theoretical discussion: what should Democrats (elected to something, or the rest of us) plan to do from 2013-2016?
Republicans decided to sacrifice the four years, sabotage the country, and look to get going again at that point. Extremely effective. Admirable in a very long ideological view.
For Democrats of shorter sight, who believe what happens in America over the next four years is important, what is the plan?
Should Democrats, with Mitt Romney as president and an overwhelmingly Republican House and a virtual tie in the Senate, try to mitigate the damage over the next four years? Cooperate; collaborate; sleep with the enemy? Or were the Republicans correct in their strategy and should we emulate them and try to damage America short term so that good may ultimately prevail?
My tone may be trivial but the issue is not. The worst strategy would be not to have one, and flounder about.
Personally, I don't mind having good things happen on Mitt Romney's watch; then we'll deal with the next election when it comes.
