Slate has published a calculator to help determine how long it takes Mitt Romney to accumulate a given amount of money (I can't honestly call it "earning" money). How long does it take him to get what you make?
In my case (publicly employed scientist with a PhD and 12 years experience):
16 hours, 10 minutes, 34 seconds
I should point out, however, that that number doesn't account for the fact that Mitt pays a considerably lower tax rate than I do, so he gets to keep a greater percentage from his 16 hours than I get to keep from my full year.
Just for fun, I decided to include my family income instead of just my personal income. My wife is a community college professor, so that should help:
1 day, 10 hours, 46 minutes, 44 seconds
Hmmm, that's still pretty fast. Maybe I need to think bigger. I work for a public museum that employees about 50 people. How long does it take Mitt to make our entire annual operating budget?
1 month, 10 days, 34 minutes, 36 seconds
Oh, well, I guess it's going to be pretty hard to match Mitt in the money department. After all, in the time it took me to write this he made $207.
