Pleased with his headway, Norquist is now mapping out how he can ensure further anti-tax victories by securing Republican majorities. In an interview with the National Journal, he mused that a GOP mandate would obviously enact an extension of the Bush tax cuts, work to maintain a repatriation holiday for corporate profits, and even pass House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) plan that jeopardizes Medicare. But when asked what Republicans should do if faced with a Democratic majority that won’t keep the tax cuts, Norquist had a simple answer: “impeach” Obama.
NJ: What if the Democrats still have control? What’s your scenario then?
NORQUIST: Obama can sit there and let all the tax [cuts] lapse, and then the Republicans will have enough votes in the Senate in 2014 to impeach. The last year, he’s gone into this huddle where he does everything by executive order. He’s made no effort to work with Congress.
Think Progress
For those who might be unaware, Norquist is the man who presses each and every candidate for Congress to sign his pledge to never raise taxes - a concept he conceived when he was 13, and which he still hasn't figured out is stupid even by 7th grade standards of political discourse. He is IMMENSELY influential in the Republican party and caucus - so much so that John Boehner felt obligated to describe him as "some random person". When John Boehner denies knowing you that means you're both someone he knows very well, and someone who he does not want the media paying attention to.
And this quote shows why. Can any halfway sane life form explain to me how NOT renewing tax cuts is a high crime or misdemeanor? Implicit in this threat is the assumption that the Republican Party has NO honor. If they can impeach, they will impeach - case closed. They will impeach Obama for being a Democrat. Given the chance, they will impeach Democrat - appointed judges for not being sufficiently pro-corporate.
The Republican Party is an ongoing crime against America, and Grover Norquist is one of the crime lords.
