We really need prayer for Vetwife's husband. His feet have been black and blue for 3 days and they went to Gainesville VA Hospital and he saw FOX on TV and pulled out the plug from TV in protest and rage for the fox news bashing Obama. Vetwife is in tears not knowing if they will arrest him or hospitalize him - he is 100% disabled and has had issues for a while -------
Please pray for vetwife and her husband - I am leaving now to the VA.
She asked me to post this before I left
Update below
Angela Jean made updated posts to this situation here
I want to humbly appologise for the quick post with little info to start - Everything happened pretty quick and by the time I got home it was 1:30 am and I had to be up and have my own son (6 year old Joshua) to have his medications changed for his Psyc. issues and heart pain related to them. I should have just updated the whole diary - and got a few things a little messed up (atorney general rather than inspector general) So sorry for that ... I was just in a mild state of shock due to all that happened.
The staff sat behind desks and did very little interaction with the patients, which made me wonder what the heck was going on - why patients weren't being moved from the ER to rooms in the VA or being dismissed. It felt like a skeleton crew was there and it just didn't seem reassuring ... we were told a psychiatrist would be there at 8 pm but none seemed to be even in the hospital until after 10pm ... and I don't think it was until after 11 pm that one got around to our Vet.
If I had to make a list of what needed to be addressed - the Fox on the tv was only the sprinkles on the icing on the cake.
1. No security what so ever. The poor old man who was the guard did not search anything for weapons, didn't take my name or how I might be related to the patient ... in fact no one cared who I was - not even the ER nurse who invited me and a 6 year old back to the ER while other patients waited back there laying down ... Don't think that was the best choice to make for our safety - but we waited for vetwife and let her know so she could check things out.
2. The police (from what I understand from vetwife) kicked our vet out of the hospital ... and knowing our vet ... he could have very well just left without getting any treatment ... talk about a possible law suit!
3. Why on earth couldn't that triage nurse at least listen to and document what the wife of this 100% disabled vet had to say?? She was trying to explain some ongoing behaviors that indicated that yes - he was very potentially harmful to himself, but she was pushed aside like anything she could say would have no merrit anyway. My God!! the very least he could do was document what she had to say and do his friggin JOB!! To completely ignore a wife and veteran advocate like Vetwife ... again - another possible law suit ....
4.a. For Vetwife to fight to get her husband treated and then being threatened to be arrested by those "police" was ....beyond CRAZY!
4.b. To threaten to arrest a veteran with psych problems when he is going there for help with his psych problems for disorderly conduct ... Excuse me - do these guys get any training? Are there not quiet rooms to place these vets in so they can calm down? taken back for meds to calm down??? SOMETHING?? Jail is most certainly NOT the answer. (And my God good Old Keven the Triage nure sees no Psyc. problems with our vet at all ... get his RN from a Cracker Jack Box??
5. Plenty of empty beds but no staff??? WTF??? The government has to pay for him in the facility they are eventually sending him to ...Seems to me like a huge waste of money. Poor use of government funds ...
6. The ER nurse was constantly on the phone ...in the whole time we were back there - from 6 until 1 am - he came in to give our vet a fan (when I went back our vet was in the hall - a fall risk - alone ... RN didn't seem to notice until I said something to him. The other time - he brought in PJ's ... my point here is that our vet was almost ignored. I am assuming it was due to stafing issues - but sometimes spending a few minutes checking in and talking to the vet can make a huge differance.
Aside from the Fox news things - these were issues I noticed that needs addressed ...
