Evan McMorris Santoro over at TPM enumerates some of the high-profile GOPers who have criticized Limbaugh's comments about Sandra Fluke. While I think he's stretching the point a little (he includes Issa's two-faced comment that Hunter eviscerates on the fp and Boehner's limp "inappropriate" comment), there does in fact seem to be a little pushback from folks in the party.
Cosmo Scottie Brown, locked in the tight battle with middle class hero Liz Warren that will ultimately consign him to less than a footnote in history, made a strong statement via twitter:
Just for kicks, you should visit Brown's twitter page to see how his tea party fans have reacted to his condemnation of Rush. He may have a beat-up old pick-up and worn barn coat, but he's also between a rock and a hard place.
Santorum's comments on CNN, "he's being absurd," have been widely quoted around the internet.
McMorris-Santoro also quotes failed senatorial candidate Carly Fiorina, currently Vice Chair of the NRSC:
That language is insulting in my opinion.... "It's incendiary and most of all, it's a distraction. It's a distraction from what are very real and important issues
Fiorina and Brown both represent the disappearing moderate wing of the party, and if you want to see which direction the GOP will take over the next few days you're best off looking at the leadership, folks like Boehner and Issa. They're engaged in damage control, and so far they have not really condemned the racist misogynist scumdog. If the advertiser boycott continues to gather steam though, watch out.
This started with Komen and Planned Parenthood and with SOPA/PIPA. The viral nature of the internet may yet kill off Rush's poisonous rhetoric -- or at least deny him the privileged perch he has enjoyed all these years from which to spew it.
