But not in the way you think:
So I was visiting my elderly father in the ALF where he's taken up residence yesterday. His roommate, a nice enough man says, "It's Sunday, I'm gonna listen to the radio". He turns on his radio to some right-wing a.m. number on the dial as he usually does. Just as I start wheeling Dad out of there to get him some fresh air I hear the radio host blair:
"Where was the liberal media when Beavis and Butthead said this?"
This radio host proceeded to play a clip from a Beavis and Butthead episode in which the main characters, who are make-believe juvenile delinquent cartoon figures, use the word "slut" in their dialogue.
In case you're missing the idea here: this radio host is comparing what Rush Limbaugh, national radio host with millions of daily listeners and spokesman of one of the two primary political parties in the most powerful nation on the planet, said on his radio show about a young law student who testfied before congress; to what two make-believe fantasy comedy cartoon characters who haven't been on TV for over ten years until a few episodes in 2011, said in a CARTOON episode!
I shit you not. Whew!
I have no idea who this radio host is. He's on the air every Sunday afternoon; it was shortly after 2 p.m. when I heard this rediculous piece of snivelling twit utter this twighlight-zone nonsense.
I didn't hang around to listen to the screened callers call in and weigh in their support of Rush Limbaugh and Beavis and Butthead. Maybe someone on this thread can identify this radio host.
The identity of this particular radio host is of little interest to me personally. The important thing to come away with is the prepostrous low to which the right has gone to dominate the airwaves for advertising revenue.
But three quick things come to mind:
1. The right thinks Beavis and Butthead speak for the Democratic Party.
2. Beavis and Butthead command a significant portion of a daily radio show audience, with millions in advertising revenue.
3. Beavis and Butthead are important opinion-makers in politics in the United States.
4. It's OK if Beavis and Butthead said it (whatever it is) because to major political figures, they are a barometer of public opinion.
This is what it has come to. I shit you not.
