So Dennis lost. He's done in congress. But I believe this could be a good thing. I've often said that good and influential people lessen their societal impact by going to Washington. I think Dennis' service, now that he's free of congress, could be much better spent elsewhere.
I, for one, am sick and tired of the most prominent anti-war voice coming from a kooky faux-libertarian. I believe Dennis could lead a new, strong anti-war movement on the left. It's needed now as much as ever with half of the GOP salivating over the prospects of a war with Iran.
It's disgusting to me that Ron Paul (R-Kook) is the only prominent popularly recognized personality associated with an strong anti-war stance. The anti-war sentiment is very popular with leftists, liberals and young people. Yet, there are crickets on our side. No prominent personality associated with it. This causes many unsophisticated folks (and folks for whom war is their primary issue) to ignore every other abhorrent policy that Ron Paul (R-Kook) espouses because of his (correct, in effect) position on war policy and the MIC. It's time to put a stop to that.
Kucinich has a very long, very honorable and outspoken anti-war position. He happens to also be a dude who believes the War on Drugs is a joke. But more importantly, he happens to be someone who is RIGHT on most all the rest of the issues regarding the role of government, our place in the world and our responsibility to each other as a society.
So, Dennis. Congratulations on your loss. Time to move on bigger and better things and stop languishing away in congress. Make your mark on society. Let's do this.
